Cornmeal & Egg Bake

I served it with a salad on the side!!!!

Well atleast they get some moisture from the salad!

They don't need to have it moist everytime they get egfood....like yesterday they got boiled grated egg, the dried I made and romaine...some days they will just get the dry others not...plus there are baths and water tubes as water sources.

Tried to make a new Dried Eggfood today....8.5 oz of enriched cornmeal, 6 eggs and the shells, about 1/8 cup of steel cut oatmeal and an 1/8 cup Lafeber's Finch pellets.

Mix well crushing the eggshells. Slow bake in the center of the oven at 350* in a lightly buttered (no salt) pan until a toothpick insterted through the center comes out clean (about 20 minutes).

Turn off the oven and leave the pan in the oven to help remove additional mositure until the oven cools....when it cools I will grind it and serve it up to the birds. I will let you know how it works out!!

This came out more dry and hard to the touch than the Jiffy mix for some reason.

Cindy, How do you store it and how long do you suppose it should stay edible? I would like to try this. I work 8-5 and don't get home til 5:30-6:00 so I have always been scared to give egg to my birds during weekdays for fear it would spoil. I do give them dried eggfood that I buy from PetSolutions.com, but your recipe sounds more beneficial to the birds.

The recipe with the amount of birds I have (A LOT) was gone in two days. You can cut the amount in ingredients to a smaller amount of you can freeze in an air tight container or bag, thraw over night and serve. (squeeze the air out of a baggie). This morning I served it up and will remove what is left after dinner.

I am going to look into more ingredients to try to add to see what goes over well with them.

I wonder... could you give this to birds feeding babies instead of the usual scrambled eggs?
