Additives to birds water and food
How often do you guys add meds, water preservers, vitamins etc to your birds water-food cups. How do you use them and what brands do you prefer?

Re: Additives to birds water and food
I don't add anything to the water, it's just fresh water. Be careful adding things to the water, sometimes the birds will not drink because it's there and the water can go off quickly with vitamins added. Be sure they drink if you do add things.
good luck

Same here, fresh water in cups and drinkers. As far as adding vitamins or additives to foods I serve Roudybush pellets and seed. Supplement with fresh veggies, sprouted quinoa and Roudybush soak and feed.

Re: Additives to birds water and food
I generally don't add vitamins or medicine to the birds' water unless there are visible signs of illness. Thankfully, this hasn't been too often. I do give liquid calcium twice per week during the breeding season and a bit of liquid iodine during the moult. That's about it. Bob

I don't add anything to the water, either.

I don't usually add anything to the water but when I do there is more than one water source one with just plain water. I change the vitamin water a couple of times a day to prevent it from getting rancid.

Re: Additives to birds water and food
I remember reading on some old posts that during quarantine, a lot of people put vitamins in the water for the first few days to ease the transition and because that is such a stressful time for birds. Also, if the bird seems to be not feeling well.

I don't normally put vitamins, etc., in the water for the same reasons already listed, but when I get new birds, I do add NV powder to the water for the first couple of days. I've never had a bird not drink it, and it helps them through the stress of changing environments. NV powder is a sugar-based mix of electroytes, minerals, and vitamins.

Re: Additives to birds water and food
I use a bit of garlic in the water twice a week, again there is free water as an alternative also. I use electrolytes when a bird is sick or coming into breeding season, my dad is a pidgeon man and swears by it, I was skeptical at first but my bullfinches last year had zero interest in breeding and he gave me some of this for the water, a week later there was a nest built and nature followed.

I have a question?
I give my birds liquid calcium and vitamins 3 times a week in their water.
I have my birds"gouldians" indoor I was told I should give them the vitamins everyday.
How often do you guys do it?
Thanks in advanced.
