I use boiled brown rice for my birds, they all like it, mix it with shave broccoli tops, shredded carrots or mixed veggies.

What kind of rice do you use?
Brown, jasmine, sushi.. Long grain short grain.
Or does it not really matter?
I am assuming that sushi rice is too sticky..

Is the rice served as is or do you mash it further?

I serve brown rice to my hookbills and finches...I make sure it is not to mush or over cooked, drained well and mixed with shaved broccoli and carrots. The hookbills love it, javas down it and some not all finches love it as well.

I do the same as Cindy - but have also used white rice - and like Cindy, mix in chopped veggies.
