Post by lovepoodle » Thu Nov 07, 2013 6:29 pm

No one sale Birds r us seeds mix anymore in US?? Oh, I need some Austere seeds mix soon !! (For finish up breeding season). Roose green solution doesn't have their finch seeds mix ether. .....Those are my main source of seeds for my finches. Does anyone know that who sale seed mix close to Bird r us Austere mix ?? Or who sale variety of individual seeds?? Need a help...

lovepoodle - Unfortunately, I heard Bill of Fabulous Finches has retired. He was the noble gentleman who was in charge of handling the Birds R Us line here in the U.S.

If you are interested in individual seeds, try Herman Bros. -> http://hermanbros-seed.com/

Otherwise, the austere mix is the resting mix, no? Maybe try the resting blend from LadyGouldianFinch.com: http://www.ladygouldianfinch.com/product_bulkseed.php

Good luck.

Edit: I just checked and LadyGouldianFinch.com is out of the resting blend. Perhaps try calling them and seeing when they'll have more in? Otherwise, you could always try Herman Bros. and try mixing your own mix. I believe they will even do custom blends for you.

Mami, Magnolia Birds Farm mixes their own feed, if you don't want to drive 3 hours they do ship too.

I know when I made a mix myself, it was primarily japanese millet, but it's my understanding that japanese millet crops did not do well this year.

Maybe someone can list some of the less fattening seeds that you could use to create a mix of your own.

lovepoodle - Hancock Seed Co. is actually the company that Nancy, the creator of Roose Green Solution worked for. So yes, the seed is safe for birds. The seed mix from Roose Green Solution was actually composed of seeds specifically tested from Hancock Seed, so if you have been feeding the Roose Green Finch mix, then you have already been feeding your birds seeds from Hancock Seed Company.

I'm confused about your earlier post on the Austere Diet mix. What exactly is in it? Japanese Millet is "Billion-dollar Grass", so that's one ingredient. The other two ingredients are rye grass and barnyard grass seed?

If you do decide to order from Hancock, I would recommend the Japanese Millet (http://www.hancockseed.com/application- ... g-818.html), Dove Proso Millet (http://www.hancockseed.com/climate-zone ... g-815.html), Brown Top Millet (http://www.hancockseed.com/bird-seed-49 ... g-812.html), and even the White Proso Millet (http://www.hancockseed.com/seed-varieti ... ag-62.html) is good as well. The German Foxtail Millet (http://www.hancockseed.com/seed-varieti ... g-549.html) is good, but it is sold out.

bugaboo5, Thank you so much for that Information ☆☆ Roose's seeds = Hancock's seeds !!! I feel much better now!!! I'll order those seeds you mentioned. .. Those seeds are ingredients of Roose finch mix, since they don't sale them little while ...??? About Austere diet mix..it said, Ingredients:Rye grass,Seeds from the Echinochloa genus (including Billion Dollar grass, Japanes millet & Barnyard grass). I just found out that Japanese millet = Billion Dollar...when I look at mix, I only see 2 ddifferent looks seed in it...so maybe Billion, Japanese, barnyard are same seed. ? I'll order some today ! I hate shipping cost for ordering , well , that's why I order regular seeds ( white proso, canary seed, red millet etc) from Dr Forster & Smith. Com over $49 shipping free ♡ pretty fresh and clean seeds they have. Thanks again for help Every one ♥

lovepoodle - You're most welcome. You don't have to order everything I recommended. The three most important I would recommend is the Brown Top Millet, Dove Proso Millet, and the Japanese Millet. Those are very popular with my birds. And I understand the shipping costs.... it does hurt!

I do want to mention though that you said you order Drs. Foster and Smith the White Proso, Canary Seed, and Red Millet. I looked at the prices and you're looking at $2.00/lb. I order from Pet Solutions, which also offers free shipping on orders $49 or more. If you are mixing the White Proso, Canary Seed, and Red Millet (and paying those prices on Drs. Foster and Smith), you might want to consider trying this mix: http://www.petsolutions.com/C/Canary-Fi ... -Food.aspx, which is basically the same mixture, but you're averaging $1.08/lb and if you purchase at least $49 worth of products, you get free shipping.

Pet Solutions has some great products for finches (http://www.petsolutions.com/C/Canary-Fi ... +SAll.aspx) and they do offer free shipping if you meet their $49 minimum. Just another company to consider if you want to avoid those shipping costs.
