For those who don't want to bother with preparing eggshells for their birds, or don't eat enough eggs to keep up with their birds demand, I've found a good place to get them: www.audubonworkshop.com/. They sell 5 lb. of ground eggshells for $9.99, but shipping is $7.95 for a small order. I got mine when they had a sale recently, and they have frequent sales. These eggshells are ground fine (with the membrane included, in case anyone asks). I add them to my mineral cup, especially for the breeding birds, and they gobble them up.
They also sell dried mealworms, which I ordered, but they are hard as a rock, and the larger size, so I haven't figured out yet how to use them with my birds. Think I will try grinding them up and adding to eggfood for the insect-loving breeders. Just thought it might be a thing to keep on hand for times when you can't get live ones--these are supposed to keep for up to a year.
