Video of my finches trying egg food

Post by Leo519 » Sun May 24, 2015 4:41 pm

A few days ago I made a batch of egg food for the first time, incorporating bits and pieces from recipes many of you have shared on this site. I forgot to sprinkle in some millet which I remember some people saying really helps finches who are new to egg food to try it for the first time. Anyway, the majority of my birds seemed to take to it pretty well, and today I gave it to them for the second time and thought I would record the event to share with you guys :D

Most finches will take to egg food once they have tried it. Usually, all it takes is one or two birds in the flock trying out the new food, and then the others are convinced they need to see what is the big deal. Great video!

You are having better luck with your gouldians than I am. Mine are still skittish about egg food. Maybe I need to change the recipe. I enjoyed your video. Welll done.

Dunker817 Thanks for watching :D
I'm new to Gouldians and have found they don't really try new things on their own. I have Societies and they go straight for anything new. My Owl finches are usually right behind them for trying new stuff.
Once the Gouldians have had some time to observe the others enjoying something new then they decide they want in on it too! It's just like Sally said (above) :D
Good luck!

Very nice video! Your birds look great and have very nice coloring. My finches love eggfood. I use eggfood that I buy from a bird store, but I like to add powdered oyster and cuttlebone that I grind myself and add featherific to help with molting or just growing new feathers.

Jamezyboo21 thanks for watching!
The next batch I make I want to add something like Featherific since my birds are going through a molt :D
