hi! Could anyone tell me what house plants are acceptable and safe to use in with my Lady Gouldians. I not only worry about the plants but also the potting mix. So many mixes have fertilizers mixed in and I'm afraid if the birds eat one of these fertilizer pellets or 'seeds' they will get sick or die.
I see alot of people use silk plants but I really want to go to a real plant which might also be safe for the birds to eat.

Re: live plants suitable for cages and aviaries
I have all live plants in my aviary except for one large silk tree that they all love to hide in.
I have boston ferns, asparagus ferns and a few palm trees. I always repot them with potting soil that has no additives. I think miracle gro has one and a few others available. They dig around in the dirt all the time and hide in the plants. I don't see them chewing much on them.

I think if you look for organic soil it should be OK and without additives.

I think in an outdoor aviary, the rocks would be OK, cause you could hose them off to clean, and water the plants at the same time.dfcauley wrote:That is the word I was looking for. "ORGANIC"![]()
I tried the rocks but I did not like that because they got poop all over them.
