Eggshell concerns and nails

Post by Stinch » Sat Jan 30, 2016 3:36 pm

Can I give the eggshell after boiling the egg or do I bake them?

I gave them eggshells after I hard-boiled some eggs for their egg-food.

How can I disinfect nail clippers to use on birds then disinfect them again?

The bird nails are long.

Once boiled the egg shell is OK to use. Let them dry out and they crumble easily.
No need to bake them.
Absolute alcohol should work as a disinfectant.

I always give eggshells from hard boiled eggs. No need to cook further.
Never thought to sterilize nail clippers to clip their nails anymore then I would sterilize to clip mine.

An easy way to get eggshells is to wash out any extra ones(from baking or cooking) Then microwave them for four minutes. This works for disinfecting and makes them easy to break up.

Unfortunately there's the issue of accidentally clipping into that vein in their toes. We can't do that when clipping our own nails - but it can happen with birds. You should have styptic powder on hand before trying to trim their nails.

Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting.
