B Camp and Franny - why do you freeze eggfood and soak seed (or whatever you add) separately? Is that necessary?

No, not necessary, I've read on Lady Gouldian site I think, that they mix it all up and freeze. I do sometimes add the dry eggfood and some soak seed to it as well, and then freeze. Depends how much time I have on any given day. :)

But I also freeze some soak seed, and the mealworms separately, so I can give them a treat now and then of just one or the other. I don't feed eggfood (real eggfood) every day, now that they are not breeding. So it's eggfood a couple of times a week, meal worms a couple of times, a couple of days soaked seed, and then a day for birdie bread. Just trying to mix things up a bit so they don't get bored.

About the only thing they get for sure every day (aside from the regular seed mix with Herb Salad, is the dry eggfood - but I mix up what dry bugs I might add to it each day. Even millet I skip the odd day. Especially when I've put a new treat or veggie in the treat cup - then I might put just a bit of millet in with it and take out the spray of millet.

Like franny said,I mix different things with it I put chopped broccoli, some times, sprouts, carrots .I don't like the way broccoli is when you freeze and thaw its to wet. You can always add other stuff before you serve

does anyone add Spirulina to the egg mix? I have that for my Koi and heard it is good to combine with it.
2 polydactyl Snowflake felines and a new Panther non-poly feline.. Working on building the bloodline of the local Fawn Owls.

I added some to my bird bread. They seem to like it.

I bought flaked kelp from the reptile section of Petsmart, and it has spirulina ahd kelp. I don't put it in the eggfood, I mix it with the seed and Herb Salad. Keeps the number of food containers down to a minimum. I have two tube type seed feeders with this mix. Then the oystershell and charcoal tube feeder, plus the water feeder.

Then I have a small treat feeder with attached perch, meant for holding bird biscuits, so it's shallow rather than deep, and I put the dry eggfood in that, but switch it out with real eggfood, or add bugs/bird bread or whatever to that. Something different each day, in that feeder! They get real excited when they see me take that one out to fill!
