Probably should take this to another forum, but since I was the originator I guess I can hijack it.
Tom Yum is a Thai soup. There are many ways to make it. I like it with bits of chicken, but you can use tofu, shrimp or beef also.
Here is a sample: http://www.templeofthai.com/recipes/tom_yum_gai.php
I purchase the instant sour shrimp paste from the asian market to make the base, then add fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, green onions, cilantro and bits of chicken.

If you like that you should also try Phở ..

Thanks Bill - Never tried Thai food or Vietnamese. Being vegetarian for so many years there are a lot of soups I won't eat - as most have stock made with chicken, shrimp, etc.

well.. I am a carnivore.. but I still enjoy a lot of Asian cuisine sans meat or fish. There are a lot of dishes I like without it although the stocks may be meat based.. Guess I'll have to find some non-meat based stock for ya.. May be more Indian cuisine.. I do enjoy that too..

Well.. no Kale at any stores down here. Looked for it at 3.

Picked up some more organic Romaine. Had a nice salad with marinated chick peas, red onions, feta and pepperoncini's tonight.

My finches and Koi will be getting some soon.

Thanks B Camp..

I tried cutting the cucumber in strips, not like 'coins' and they were the regular ones here, not the 'english' type (not sure what they are all called).

Know they'll be happy with the Romaine till I can find some Kale to offer .. They may not like that either. :)

What other veggies do yours like?

all I do is cut the lebanese cucumber into quarters lengthwise. it took the birds a few days to get used to it, as usual the gouldians took longer than anyone else to try it. now though all my birds eat it, they demolish two per day in the aviary leaving only the skin

the seeds in a lebanese cucumber are smaller and also softer than those in a regular cucumber. I tried zucini (or however it is spelt) once for a week the birds hardly touched it, the flesh of it is a lot firmer than a cucumber I believe that is why the birds didnt eat it

Thanks Mick..

I looked up some pics for Lebanese Cucumbers and I've never seen them here. They look similar to the 'pickling' cucumbers we have out/up here, but I'll bet they are not the same.

Wonder if there are any seeds available for them here in the States?
