soft seed for fledglings?

Post by ac12 » Mon Jun 29, 2009 12:04 am

Question.
In nature, seeds are not soaked for the fledglings, so why is it recommended that we soak the seeds?

When the rains come, there are probably tons of seeds on the wet ground on the verge of sprouting.

When seeds sprout, the content of carborhydrates decreases and the amount of protein increases at the same ratio. It's the protein that is so important to the growing chicks.

In nature, birds are born in the spring when the seed is in its green stage. At that stage it has a milk that is much higher in protein, which chicks need for development. The seed you are feeding is equivalent to fall and winter seed. It is higher in carbohydrates which the birds need that to burn for heating their bodies :D
Sprouting seed makes it more like green seed.

Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.
