Zebra change the feeding food preference.

Post by ac12 » Wed Oct 21, 2009 11:43 pm

My zebra changed their diet preference for feeding the chicks .

For the first 2 weeks after hatching they primarily ate the NutriStart hand feed mix and occasionally some seeds. I presume cuz it is easier to regergitate and maybe they feel it is better than seeds for the hatchlings.

In the 3rd week they are swapping and starting to eat more seeds and less NutriStart. Although they sometimes just dig into the NutriStart. And they seem to want the NutriStart dryer than before, or they ignore it.

Kind of like, time to get off the baby food and change to big bird food.

Yep! As the birds get older the parents will start feeding them whole or nearly whole/soft seeds! Mine are still young but starting to open eyes and get little pins where feathers will be. So far the parents feed them about 90% eggfood and 10% seeds.
