I was just going to post a question about pellets vs. seeds! I have 30 finches and feed a good-quality basic finch seed mix, and then add vitamins, minerals, etc. I also give them veggies, egg, spray millet. I had read that when breeding finches, seed was best, as parents may not feed pelleted feed to their babies. After doing some research, I'm leaning towards the pelleted feed, but it is considerably more expensive than seed mix. So the pros are less mess and less waste, cons are more cost.
Have any of you with lots of finches used the pelleted feed instead of seed mix? Can you get it in larger than 5lb. containers? Do breeding birds feed their babies fine with the pellets? With a more balanced diet, do you need all the additional vitamins and minerals?
I'd really appreciate some advice on this--I'm tired of a floor covered with seeds and seed hulls every day! Crystal, I see you are using the pellets and I know you have lots of birds--do you still use seed at all?
