Cuttlebone, Mineral Block etc.

Post by Leikela » Sun Jul 15, 2007 12:24 pm

Hello,

I have a cuttlebone & a mineral block but my 2 zebra finches don't touch them. I even tried scraping a little off after they sat there for so long not being used. Infact the only thing they seem to eat outside of their food bowl is millet.

I tried putting other food (like veggies/egg) in a seperate bowl & they don't seem interested in eating it but if I put it in the one standard food bowl with their seed they will eat it. I make sure the seed/food bowl stays clean & foods that spoil don't stay long so it really isn't a problem. I was just wondering if that was normal? lol

Try scraping the cuttlebone on some eggfood (boiled or scrambled, mashed chicken eggs). In a separate dish, provide them with crushed oyster shell and/or crushed chicken egg shells which have been nuked in the micro for a couple mins.

It's been my experience that they aren't all that willing to try veggies and fruits unless they have eggs or chicks in the nest. Keep trying and hopefully you find something they like.

Thankyou! 8)

They like those things, they eat them (egg,veggies-mostly broccoli) but they will not eat them if I put it in a seperate bowl. :?: lol
