It's 100% whole wheat bread - is that okay for them or should I keep tossing the heels???![]()

I just don't get it...my Hubby won't eat them either.

Anyhow, I would save them, freeze them, and then offer them as needed.
... I meant the bread heels - not the son or hubby!

Kidding but I know if it were appropriate food for your finches you would be up every morning doing it! Anyhow, I've been up w the little one and cleaning but I just had to respond to this.

Re: Toast
I have seen that health food bread at our local grocery. It sounds like it would be a great thing to serve to the finches with all that sprouted seed! My question is this, once you toast a piece, how do you offer it? Does it need to be crumbled or cut up, how much do you offer at a time, etc. Thanks so much for sharing this tip!

Re: Toast
I just clip a whole piece to the cage. that way they don't chase it all over. They love picking at it.

Re: Toast
These birds have a toast abuse problem. After I toast it I put it on top of their cage to cool. They see me coming and can't wait to get at it.

Re: Toast
Cindy, you have to let me know when you're kidding or not. Next thing you know, I'll be posting, "Cindy said I could give them cheeseburgers". Will they eat strawberries? Mine love veggies, but I haven't found a fruit they really like>cindy wrote:Did ya try french toast????? side of strawberries to!!!

Re: Toast
Ray...I am not kidding!!
I use to take eggs and dip bread into it and make French tost for my African Gray!!! He loved it, we did this every so often when my husband made it. Or you can take the multi grain bread, cut a hole out of the middle with a small juice, place the bread in a skillet, break an egg into the whole (you can puncture the yolk if you like.) Cook on a low heat, when one side is don and the egg has cooked some and is not runny, flip it over and cook the other side lightly....we call these "hole in the walls". Riley loved these also. Just a thought for a treat for the flock!!!!

Re: Toast
I decided to try this since my birds have never had any toast.
I lightly toasted a piece of wheat bread (in the white dish) and soaked a piece in water with probiotics sprinkled on top. (of course this is the treat they are used to) You can see the results........
I am going to continue this and see if they will eventually go for the toast since it was new to them.

Wow, that's an impressive taste test. Let me know how your tests continue. I may have to try soaking. What's the deal with the probiotics?dfcauley wrote:I decided to try this since my birds have never had any toast.
