Re: Home made seed mixes
You need to leave it down daily....my owls, lavendars, GS and shaft tails all eat it. There is a way to gradually get them to eat it

My finches also eat the roudybush nibble pellets... It has no artificial flavors or perservatives which I think the birds can detect...and seems they dislike these additives.
Even my hookbills will eat the roudybush... I do feed a wide variety of seeds also along with fruits, veggies, and herbs.

Re: Home made seed mixes
Dayna, the one thing I have noticed with the Zupreem is some of the birds I have aquired that were on a seed only diet most of their lives when offered the seed and Zupreem fruit blends, most make a bee line for it, down it quickly.
The esiest to get to adapt to pellets are young fledglings willing to try something out to eat. If introduced from the start they will readilly accept them, parents may follow by example.
There are some that my not take to it as readily. I also have some...especially in one of my owl flights that pick out all but the red. If I offer it to then in a treat cup or invidual dish they leave me a bowl of reds. The like the yellow and greens and orange the best.
They are like kids with M&M's. My Green Singers are the same...everyone else eats them and probably would prefer to have just them over seeds at times. I open a new bag when mixing the seed and the birds must smell it, everyone starts chirping away like when I bring veggies in for them!
The Roudybush is prefered by mostly the zebras and shaft tails, it contains apple. The BC zebras seem to like it the best. I blend both Zupreem and Roudybush into the seed mix.

@Dayna
Crushing the pellets is a good idea.
I do that w my wifes canary. It eats the dry egg food, but leaves powdered egg behind. I sprinkle some of that powder into his fresh veggies, so it won't go to waste, and he eats it.
I plan to do that w my zebras also. They grind up the zupreem when they eat and leave a lot of powdered zupreem in the food tray.
I used the method in the FIC to convert birds to eating pellet food. I also put new birds with my pellet eating birds, and "monkey see monkey do," and they start to eat the pellet food and fresh veggies.
