If you don't have hookbills and don't know anyone with them, you can consider donating the bag to your local humane society or shelter. They do get birds in (both as surrenders and strays) and use food that is donated.
I just ordered my samples yesterday and can't wait (though apparently will have to wait quite a while lol).

I got my samples delivered to the office so will see how they like it tonight. I got the Austrialian Blend, Basics Plus for finches, and the Treat Petite for finches.atarasi wrote:...yes, but did any of you smell it?! It smells so familiar.
I immediately opened each one to sniff them!

I think I have it! Licorice! The star anise smells like licorice.

I think you're right. The anise licorice smell that's so familiar. Mystery solved! (for me) Thanks Franny.franny wrote:I got my samples delivered to the office so will see how they like it tonight. I immediately opened each one to sniff them!I can't put my finger on it, but they do have a familiar smell, sort of made me nostalgic. I think it's either the new car smell of the plastic they are packaged in, or the smell of the herbs, but it makes me think of Christmases when I was a kid. Maybe they have cloves in them? I'll check the list of 50 ingredients to see if one of them rings a bell.

I put a feed cup with the Treat Petit in there, and it's been there for about 2 hours, and they haven't touched it! I don't know if it's because they are naturally suspicious of any new feeders, or if they just don't like the smell.
I don't want to disrupt their usual routine too much, as they are sitting on eggs, otherwise I would have put it in the treat cup they get their eggfood in. Well I'll try just scattering it on the bottom of the cage tomorrow, if they still are afraid of the other treat cup. They always go down to the bottom to root through whatever is there.
Will try the Australian Blend tomorrow night, if they don't try this one.

They've done a fair bit of nibbling on the Australian Blend. They prefer it over the Treat Petite. For the Treat Petite, I think because it has so many larger pieces of nuts, that budgies, or bourkes would Like it, or lovebirds.
