When you eventually get used to it, everything else looks so small and unhealthy. Going to Petco last night and looking at their birds and stuff, their packaged sprays is a joke. $8 for less than a dozen tiny sprays is exactly the reason why I prefer the California grown sprays. So for now, I'll only buy from LGF.com until I can grow my own.
The only thing though is I believe she switched growers.
Unless you can contact her privately and still order the California Spray?

Okay, odd....
I just went to her site and now it's back to California Golden Spray Millet.
I swear the last time I went to order though she had switched to Wisconsin... I wonder if she discontinued it for the same reasons (in terms of the problems I had with it and the complaint you had with yours as well).

I picked up a 5lb box of California Golden Spray Millet at the Bird Mart here in Texas. I was surprised at how large they were, but my birds don't seem to eat it as much as the packaged ones from Petsmart. They would go through several of the store bought sprays each week. Does that mean that the California Golden Spray Millet is better for them?

They are still happy and healthy.

I do plan to grow some this Spring. I'll plant some of the store bought seeds as well as the Golden Spray seeds and see what happens.

I know there is a post on growing it somewhere on this forum, Cartel. As others have said, it is pretty easy.

I don't necessarily think it's because it's better for them - but I do think birds acquire tastes for certain sprays.
My birds have mostly had California Spray Millet - so if I run out and don't get my shipment right away, I've resorted to buying the millet at PetSmart, and my birds won't really eat that until they just get desperate :)

Tiffany, sorry for the confusion. LGF.com did switch vendors to the Wisconsin grower, but after several complaints have now switched back to the CA company. I don't believe they offered the Wisconsin grown stuff for very long.

This makes sense - when I saw she had switched to Wisconsin Millet, I checked out their site and ordered direct from them to save a bit of the mark up cost.
The packaged arrived completely smashed (see below) with the tape torn at every seam and seed falling out, it was so bad I was compelled to take photos and email them to WSMC to complain.
I believe it was you as well who said the stuff you got just looked moldy and rancid (mine too).
I emailed immediately and complained, and they did absolutely nothing. She claimed she was going to speak to her UPS rep, and someone named Walter, but when I tried following up to see what had been discussed, she said she would "notify me when she got word." That was February 23rd, I have yet to hear anything back from her. (Her being "Judy")

Thanks Nix.. I guess I need to introduce the California Spray Millet gradually, and keep the store millet in there as well. Will probably be the same situation when I introduce the home grown millet.

Or - in this most recent situation I switched brands and my birds will only eat one of the kinds I was sent (I got a 6# combo box.. but I have no clue which is which).

Tiffany, I can see why the Wisconsin company might not be so quick on making you happy. If the quality is what was shipped to you (and me too), they wouldn't know anything was different because they might not know the quality of other growers and what YOU'RE used to.

Sorry they haven't tried making things right. If you used a credit/debit card, I would dispute the transaction. That would make them open their eyes.

I have only fed the California Golden brand of spray millet, and I love it )should say my birds love it  ). BillD, just keep offering it to your birds, they will get used to it. I always wonder how fresh the millet is that is packaged in the pet stores.

I don't know if my estimate would be accurate but I would say between 80-100?

Countrymeadow, once you purchase a 5 lb box, you'll kick yourself for buying the stuff at the petstore because of how much money you could have been saving.

Shipping for us (WA state) is about $15, but well worth it. You'll see! I should be getting my free box tomorrow.
