How often should i feed my Javas paddy rice as i recently heard it's fattening for the birds. I currently give them a very small handfull of seeds every day as they do seem to enjoy them.

I don't really know either, and I just started feeding it this year, to my society and gouldians. I do the same, limit it to just a small handful every couple of days, because I also heard it was fattening. How much is too much, I don't really know... :?

Hmm,
I have a small dish full in my aviary. I usually refill it once a week and when it is gone that is the end for the week. It is probably good during the winter to have extra fat. But I guess it depends if the birds are outside or in. Mine need the fat I think to fight off the cold weather...

Societies love paddy rice, especially when they're having chicks.
I always mix a small amount of rice in my seed mix for all the birds, indoor or outdoor, they're just fine, never see any bird getting too fat. :)

I got mine at a specialty bird store. But you may be able to find it in a natural food store. It's just un-hulled rice.

i kept javas for years ,and it is fattening.really you should only give them small amounts as they will just eat that and nothing else.what i used to do was feed them slighly more in the winter ,because as you realise it is fattening and give them only slighly less when they have young.the best thing about it is when you want to put to give them a treat like pym to build them up sprinkle it on to the paddy rice and you will be sure they get the goodness aswell as the youngsters

I've called everywhere I can think of locally and still can't find paddy rice. Does anyone know of a good online source?
