Diatomaceous Earth

Would like to know if any of you are using this and mixing in with your seed to help control the bugs etc. How much would you ad to like 5 lb. seed and other uses thanks ?

I put DE in the bottom of my nest boxes under the nesting material to prevent mites. I've never had mites but I can't say that I would have had them if I didn't use DE either.

I also only use food grade DE in the bottom of the nestboxes.

Bill,
See this post I found on a gardener's forum, second poster. He had the amount right for the large quantities of grain (as per the manufacturer's website) which is 7 lbs per ton.
I don't know if he, or someone else came up with the figure for smaller amounts of grain. He says you can mix food grade diatomaceous earth with any grain or seed at a rate of about 1% by weight. For 10 lbs of seed, use 1/10 of a lb of DE (about an ounce and a half). Mix well.
