please explain this "substance." I was wondering mainly if it was something that you had to make or if you could buy it made. And relatively how important this staple really is. Along with whatever else I may be interested to know... Please and thank you.

You can make it, buy it, or combine homemade with store-bought. For homemade it can be as simple as a smashed boiled egg (with or without shell), or can be egg with any combination of breadcrumbs, veggies, and supplements. Store bought is dried eggfood. I personally mix storebought with a mashed egg - keeps it drier so doesn't go bad so fast. It's an excellent source of protein, so is great for molting birds (growing those feathers) or birds feeding chicks.

Hope this helps!

Okay, so if I made a larger than needed batch, could I freeze and use later?

I haven't tried freezing it, but a number of people do.
