12 eggs?

I read somewhere you can make corn bread for your finches but it called for one jiffy box and 12 eggs? Is there anyway to not waste so many eggs? I know I could size it down but that may be difficult as I don't know what I would cook it untill I purchased additional materials.

Does anyone know a different way of making it perhaps. :?: I understand eggs are great for them & all but I don't want to use that many....and I have other things to put in & they may not even like it!.....Any ideas on what to put in & what NOT to put in (besides what you normally do not feed them)? :D

Edit- I guess I will get a muffin pan for a smaller portion, has anyone sized down the recipe. I only have 2 finches & I don't like saving/freezing things long.

Thanks! :D

If you only have two birds why not skip the cornbread until you are fixing some for yourself and then give them a treat.

I prefer to scramble the eggs I feed my birds. You can do one up in just a few minutes and not have to freeze the left overs. My birds eat them better than boiled.

I use this recipe, but I have 30 finches. I really like this because it provides lots of protein with that much egg, yet you can leave it in their cage all day without it spoiling. It is drier than just plain egg, and my birds like it better. I do freeze it (I do as the person who posted it, divide it into 8 portions), and just have to take out a piece in the morning, and then later I either grate it or put it thru my mini food processor. I serve it plain or I add chopped up veggies. I take the 12 eggshells, zap them in the microwave, put them in a ziplock bag, and crush them with a rolling pin--then I just add some to each oystershell grit dish. The birds gobble this up. I don't give them this eggbread every day when they are resting, but when breeding or molting, they get lots of it. I would imagine you could downsize it, I just never have.

Go to www.finchaviary.com then click Care, and under Diet you will see Eggfood Recipes. I really like this eggbread--you can serve it plain, or add whatever you want to it.

WOW

I use to feed my birds a cornbread similar to that. (a few less eggs and I added some seed) I found it helpful to bake the mix in muffin tins. I'd freeze the muffins and just thaw out one muffin at a time, as needed.
just a thought,
