Hi Janine,

I know its a commercial, but I also had to show the video just so folks would believe me :D We have lived here for 10 years and have never seen so many Goldfinches in our life! Our neighbors bring their kids over to watch. Breeding season is approaching and it will be interesting to see how many we can keep around then. If they all nest in the woods around us, we'll have a Goldfinch bonanza next fall :D

Take care,

Bill

Wow! That's a lot of gold finches!! =D> =D> =D>

This winter we had about 20 or so in our yard. They are crazy about sunflower chips. We do feed thistle, but the "normal" one from the local bird store. I think I have to try that live niger seed next winter...
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

Our goldfinches love the sunflower chips also!! Can't keep the feeders full. We also put out the thistle bags that never last the day besides the regular thistle feeders.

Hi Ursula,

If you were getting 20, you'll probably get 10 times that many with live niger, so watch out :D It took a little while for them to find it, but once they did, they won't leave!

The U.S. and I think Canada and the U.K. are the only places that kill the imported niger. Everywhere else it is live and used as a staple food for most exotic finches. It has a bad rap here for cage birds, but finches love fresh live niger!

Take care,

Bill
