There are lots of plants with small leaves that look about right for finchess, and grasses and other grassland plants that are seeding, and the birds seem to like the ones I've given them. Are there any plants we should not give to them?

The only thing from outside I feed my finches is dandelions and chickweed. All other greens/veggies come from frozen or bought from the store like carrots, corn, peas, beans etc. I don't know about other wild plants but I'd be careful about what you give. Wheat grass is good and I know some people feed their finches green seed but mine won't touch it unless it's to use for nesting material

. Have you read the finch information center on food?

I feed my birds loads of seeding grasses that i collect from the fields etc. But they dont really eat it that much, they do like chewing with it and playing with it though, so give it a try.
Just be very carefull where you collect it from though. make sure it is not near any fields that have been sprayed with fertilizer etc.
Apparently dandilion seeds are really good for birds too.
