I have a female about 6 to 7 months old and a male that I have just recieved after our first died within a few days of buying him.....

Our new male is about a year old or so we have been told. He has the band on his leg that reads 06 and he is finishing a molt. I was getting a little worried because we were told that he had been molting for about 2 weeks before we got him and in two days it will be a total of three weeks. It seems like the molt is taking a long time. Int he time we have had him there are the same little while spikes on his head and nothing seems to be changing. I am not sure if there is a change to be seen but we want to make sure his is still healthy through this.
So off I went to another pet store and bought some powder vitiamins to place in their seed as well as some egg food place in the seed. I usually change their food three times a week. Could I or should I be giving them their seed food, vitiamin and egg food all three times? if not what would be the best schedul for this?
thanks

Gouldians can take a lot longer than three weeks to finish molting. I wouldn't be worried if I were you. You can help assist in feather growing by buying certain types of things like kelp (iodine supplements), or things that help feathers grow faster.
As far as a feeding schedule. Are you using just a dish that holds their seed? If you are, I would check it every day because finches eat a lot of seed each day and in those dishes it can look full, but not actually be full. In my finch cages I have feeders that hold up to two pounds, so it'll last them up to a week and a half without my having to change anything.
For a molting gouldian, I would also try to provide fresh boiled egg mashed up at least every other day. Also put in fresh veges and all of that.

for our cage we have 4 side holders that hold about 1/4 cup I fill two with seed, egg food and a littel vitamine and then the other two with water.
I have also tried a few other veggies at the bottom of the cage but my female would not try any but since I have only had my male for not even a week and just trying the new food in with his seed I thought I would wait a week before adding more to his diet.
So more egg food even thought I have added egg food to their seed? They both are loving it......
Iodine supplements in a food form or a treat form? what is the easiest and should I only give it to them once a week? or always part of their diet like the vitamin and egg food?
thanks

I keep kelp granules available in a cup (along with charcoal and eggshell) at all times in my gouldian cages. If you are currently providing dry eggfood, I would also provide fresh mashed egg a couple of times a week - it helps my kids when they are molting.
