I am concerned about forgetting and leaving fresh egg food out too long, and making my finches ill. Does anyone use a good dried egg food instead of fresh for nesting finches? What have your experiences been? I am wondering if a good dried mix and dried insects would be as good or not, as feeding a fresh egg food for parents feeding chicks?

There are several good dried eggfoods that I have tried...they like the ABBA dried Nestling eggfood and the ABBA Green 92 Eggfood

I usually use both dry and feash eggfood. My dry eggfood has also some dried incets and the birds very much like it, I often mix it in with their seeds.

I have sometime left fresh eggfood for "too long" but it has never posed a problem. Also if you give them fresh eggfood mixed with the dry one, the fresh one will dry up instead of becoming foul.

Also if there is enough other food in the cage, my finches at least, find no reason to keep eating a half a day old eggfood.

But to the point, dry eggfood works quite well But my finches just love fresh boiled eggs so I wouldn't stop feeding them that.

The dried egg food I offer every day during breeding and hard boiled egg maby 2-3 times a week. Some times I mix the both with some sprouted seads, crusched cuttlebone and some dry white bread, thats a big hit around here

That's what I do as well.

I give my birds Miracle Meal. They LOVE this and devour it.
It gets a little expensive, but it is good for them.

I put all of my veggies and egg food into one dish for my birds. I use Sukses dried egg/breeding food, and i mix it in with freshly fine chopped apple. Along beside this I either provide broccoli greens finely chopped or kale, with finely chopped carrots and the birds go nuts for it. I find the apple gives some of the dried egg food just enough moisture that it doesn't go bad, and stays relatively crumbly still. I leave the mix in the cage for 24 hrs usually. The birds never get sick, and almost all of it is gone before i replenish it the next day.

I forgot to mention something in regards to the ABBA eggfood...I take Roudybush pellets and grind them to a powder and add them to the dried eggfood. It contains fruit like apples and lots of minerals and vitamins. My birds eat this and feed it to their young. The also get fresh seed and Zupreem fruit blend pellets, dried herbs and veggies. The veggies I leave out for only a few hours.

I use fresh boiled eggs chopped up fine with shell and cuttle bone. I think the birds know if it's gone bad or not. I had some birdy bread in the fridge apparently too long and they wouldn't touch it. Birds are pretty smart. Mine won't eat dry egg food. Even if I mix it with the fresh boiled egg. They pick out the egg and leave the dry food.
Oh, when I have baby birds that are being fed I line a ice cube tray with plastic wrap and in each ice cube I put a couple spoons of egg food. Then cover it with wrap and freeze it. I put one cube in their cage at night and when morning comes it's defrosted but still very cold and fresh. That way I know when they first wake up they have food to feed the babies.

I use fairly dry homemade eggfood, but I also offer Volkman's eggfood when I don't have time for the homemade, or sometimes in addition to the homemade, if I'm going to be gone overnight. My birds seem to like the Volkman's very well.

I've tried both, but my birds won't eat the dried egg food. They'll only eat the fresh.
