I've heard, but don't recall where, of peopling giving their finches milkbones as something for their birds to peck at. I'm guessing they'd be high on nutrition but also high in fat? Can anybody give their input as too if I should let my zebras one too peck at? Thanks, any input is welcome.

Vets don't even recommend these....like giving got dog sugar. Stick to veggies and eggfoods, bird pellets.

While the granola ones seem a bit better ingredient wise I don't feel there would be enough protein or benefit to even try. You'd be much better off with fresh veggies and egg food in my opinion.

Thanks! I do offer eggfood several times a week so ill stick to that. I sometimes give them fruits and veggies, and cooked pasta strings, not seasoned of course. They seem to love grapes. I cut them in half and they go crazy over the nectar/juice inside.

Grapes are also not the best of foods for our fids. I cut them out completely for the birds and dogs and only eat them myself now.

While grapes aren't high in protein they are good for vitamin A and K, potassium and calcium to name a few. Fed as a treat wouldn't be a bad thing I don't think.

I know it's not recommended to give parrots more than 1/2 grape a week. there is something in them that isn't good for birds. I've never given my finches grapes because of this. I do make my birds birdy bread with as much good goodies as I can put in it for a treat or a sub. for egg food because there are a lot of eggs in the birdy bread.

Grapes can be very dangerous for dogs also
I always found this odd about the birds however... their are many bird mixes with some raisins in them...... aka dried grapes

Yeah, I know when I help my uncle feed his birds his lovebird mix has dried grapes, but they aren't all wrinkly like raisins, they look like gutted out grapes

I'm going to make the bread sometime this week, I may switch it around a bit. If I do and it turns out successful I will share the recipe.
