I seem to have read something about this once in a post, but can't recall. I have little flying moth-type guys flying around; usually one or two a day. I clap them with my hands & put them in the food dish for the RC Cordons, who gobble them right up. where do these little buggers come from (bird seed?) & what do I do about them.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Do I do anything about it?

They are moths that come in seed. I use diatomaceous earth mixed in the seed to prevent larvae from maturing. You can also freeze seed to kill them.

They are not bad for the birds, mine like them too. My button quail hunt them down and it's too funny when they jump up a foot or two to catch them... :D

However, you should make sure that you keep them out of your kitchen, otherwise you might one day find them in your cereal, flour, pasta.....

You can get seed moth traps and they will keep them in check. I always have a few in the kitchen (on top of the fridge, in the pantry cabinet) and outside the aviary. I use those: http://www.amazon.com/Safer-Brand-05140 ... 022&sr=8-5

When you pour out you seed if you see a clump of seed, stuck together, smush it and toss it out. The is a little moth waiting to happen.

I was just about to ask about these until I saw this! I planted some seed to give my bird's fresh green, and it's been about a month and I just noticed them now. I noticed them crawling on the newspaper at the bottom of the cage. I grabbed the pot and put it on my balcony, we are getting so much wind and rain, maybe this little monsoon will kill them outside.

Moths are awful! You do not want to get them in your kitchen, because the only way you will get rid of them is be throwing-out all your dry goods.

The larvae are gross.
