I am going to start ordering my mealworms in bulk from online.
A local friend/bait shop worker directed me to this company for the best.
http://www.grubco.com/
Has anyone tried it before??? They seem to sell a large number of worms and bird live foods.

I use Grubco and the quality is outstanding. I have not shopped around for price, however, and will be interested to hear about other sources.

I am ordering from Grubco. In fact, I just received 20,000 minis from them, and no T-shirt!!

I have always been happy with the orders I get from them.
Another good source is
http://www.rainbowmealworms.net, I think they are on the West Coast. Oops, I just checked this web address, and it seems to be temporarily unavailable.
For those in the Southeast,
http://www.southeasterninsectaries.com is another one.

I never used them but their prices seem to be great, better than nyworms where I am buying usually.
Is the $8 flat rate the same for all shipping zones? In that case I'll probably order some too. My own mealworm farming business is really not producing a lot of mealies...

I think I will move this thread to Diet and Nutrition, since it is just about feeding mealworms.

Since Grubco has currently a flat rate shipping of $6 for orders under $50 I ordered 5000 mini and 5000 big mealworms (for my quail and the backyard birds). That came to $49 plus the flat rate $6.
Thanks for the tip!

Well, my order from grubco arrived usps today to my door. Inside was my xl t-shirt def a man's shirt, and a canvas bag marked w blk marker 5,000 count small.
As this was my first time that I've ever ordered mealworms online I proceeded with caution. Inside there were two balls of newspaper full of squiggily worms as well as worms crawling all over the place in the bag. Yesterday was a mail holiday, so they'd been in there for a while.
I was able to empy the worms into two containers. One to keep out and one to put back into the fridge once they've eaten.
I feel bad that I have no potato in the house and right now they're eating apple and strawberries only. I wonder if I need to feed them potatoes specifically to make this whole thing work...
The $6 shipping was a great deal, the size small are very very small and I think that mini would have been too small for me. I did not see a single dead worm in my delivery.

I feed mine apples and carrots not potatoes and they do fine. A couple months ago I started using game bird pellets instead of bran or oats and they seems to be growing like crazy.

We built the aviary the end of 2009 and it has been working out wonderful. First winter I discovered that the coop was too insulated and was holding in too much moisture so we took away the rubber insulation around the doors. Haven't had a problem since and now it's got nice ventilation.
