Babies and their feeding habits

Post by jackie » Sun Nov 13, 2011 9:12 pm

I have two finches that have just recently fledged.....when do the parents stop feeding them? Should I be concerned that they haven't tried to find the seed dish yet?

Some chicks will eat the day they fledge, others will take a LONG time maybe 3 weeks. Some can eat but they "freeload" for as long as they can, getting mom and dad to feed them.

Always make sure your fledglings are totally weaned before separating them from their parents, too. They need to be eating AND drinking on their own, not just sampling some foods.
