safe glue to use

Post by finchandlovebird » Thu Jan 05, 2012 8:04 pm

I put this on the Diet & Nutrition topic board, but it's about seed cups .... not food.
I have those standard 8" long seed cups that hook on the cage sides. I want to glue dividers in them so the birds don't sit & poop in the cups. Something that is bird safe & dishwasher safe. Any knowledge on this?

I would think that any glue is ok as long as you make sure there is no excess glue stuck to the dishes after gluing the dividers in, and letting it dry and air out thoroughly for several days.

As for dishwasher safe: I can't imagine that any glued plastic is dishwasher safe.

Not sure what kind of dividers you want to put in to make sure the birds don't sit in it, but maybe it would be better to get some new cups that already are better. Something like this maybe: http://store.mfgouldianfinches.com/smbfe.html or seed hoppers http://www.fabulousfinch.com/cart/produ ... 133-0.html.
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

You can try aquarium silicone. Just try not to over do it and have spots they can pick at.

I have the ones in the first link. I like them, but be warned- they DO NOT fit all cages. I figured they would, but I have the A&E flight cage and the bar spacing for the vertical bars is just right that the hooks do not fit. I actually broke one, trying to get it to fit.

I have had seed hoppers get cracks or broken areas, and I just use Super Glue, also put them in the dishwasher and the glue holds. Just don't put your seed hoppers in the bottom section of the dishwasher if you use the heated dry option, the slides for the hull drawer can get warped.

Thanks for all the responses; think I'll try Super Glue. I put all my bird dishes in the top rack & NEVER use the dry cycle; just open the door when the wash is complete & let them air dry. thanks again  If you don't see me add anything to Finch Forum for a while; it'll be because my fingers are stuck together. I always make a mess when I use Super Glue.
