I was wondering if anyone has tried powdered whole eggs, it comes in a can. You can also make it at home but the bake time is very long...with the exception of using teflon it seems do-able.

I have heard of powdered egg whites being added to soft food to increase the protein, but don't remember where I read that.

Sally, they sell whole dried 100% egg in cans....tempted to try this....especially on busy days.

How would you serve powdered egg anyway, if you were just wanting to use it as a substitute for fresh eggs on busy days? I give mine dry commercial eggfood on those days. From time to time, I give them dry commercial eggfood instead of fresh just to get them eating it, so that if I have to substitute, they will eat it. I like Volkman's eggfood, as it actually has egg in it.

Sally, I bought dried egg whites, tried giving it to a few pairs. Funny to see the reaction, they tasted it and wipped their beaks. I could not find the whole dried eggs in the grocery. So I boiled egg and added a little of the dried egg whites and corn meal to the mix, now they are eating it.

I was just wondering about offering it to them as a whole egg substitute, I have used ABBA dried eggfoods but they tired of it. I will have to try the Volkman, it may go over better. Right now the weather is weird here, the air is not running, heat sometimes or the windows are open....boiled egg left out to long if I get detained while out concerns me. Mixing it with the dried products helps though.

We use to make canary egg biscuits with powdered eggs.
Mix the egg powder with cornbead and bake. This was given to breeding canaries to feed their young. That was when the only commercial eggfood in the pet stores was CeeDee and was too expensive for me to buy.

Candace, I tried the egg in cornbread...mine don't like it, even the honey cornbread. They all seem to like the moist stuff like grated eggs, organic brown rice, couscous.

Yeah, I would never fed that stuff now. This was some 20 years ago that we did that for our birds. Much better stuff on the market these days Of course canaries aren't too picky about there diets..they eat just about anything

It was amazing what we use to do before premade feeding formulas and eggfoods!!! My homemade hand feeding formulas where a bit time consuming to make, once KayTee formula came on the market it was a blessing!

I saw the video, Cindy. It said use 6 eggs per tray, and then when you're done, each tablespoon of powder is one egg. So a tray is reduced to only 6 tablespoons! Very concentrated. I remember when I baked dog kibbles, it always amazed me how little you're left with once the moisture is gone. I estimate hardboiled egg is probably at least 70% moisture.

There are so many products on the market now it is almost dizzying! I need to start keeping records of things I buy and try. With my senior memory, I have been known to buy a product, try it out, don't care for it, and six months later, I am ordering it again!

I tried powdered whole egg. It was fine powder and chalky. The birds did not touch it. It would have to be added to something in order for them to eat it. It did not work like I hoped.

I ended up mixing it in with grated egg and cornmeal...it did not rave reviews by itself from my birds! Worth a try...
