I heard people bought charcoal for their bird as supplemental. Is that special charcoal? I have a fireplace and we burn hardwood there, would it be ok to feed my bird with that charcoal?
Thanks,

Thanks, Cindy, those are big thread, and I missed! I will just throw in a piece and see how it works.
My finches have been eating ... redwood. I placed one piece of fence redwood in the aviary to hold bath bowl and they have been picked on it making a big dent on its surface. Lets see how they like charcoal.

Just an update on this topic.
I put a piece of hardwood charcoal, about the size of a large chicken egg, in my aviary, and after about a week, I see starfinches, societies and goulds start eating, a lot, almost 1 third of it.
Canaries, CB, and gold finches don't touch it.

That's interesting, they must like it.
