I would like to order some bird seed and wondered what you all used for your healthy birds. I know ABBA is good but are there others and where is the best place to buy it ? Thank you so much for any info....
Cath
I want to order some for my canaries and gouldians. I also been reading about Deans seed mix for canaries and I think tomorrow I will order it.

I use ABBA for my birds because it was the best quality seed I could find for the best price and the only I could find in Canada but there is also the Mike Fidler diet which is strictly for goulds that you can buy from lady gouldian

Deans seed is a good mix based on his years of research. Also fresh
I also feed and sell ABBA at my store. And I am tweaking my own mix (okay..copying Dean's...he said I could) for the canaries I breed

I've used Herman Bros (
http://www.hermanbros-seed.com/ ) and
Jones seed (
http://www.jones-seed.com/c-3-finch-and-canary.aspx )
They both have good seed mixes and had no problems with them.
Also bought Birds R Us from Fabulous Finch (
http://www.fabulousfinch.com/cart/catal ... -21-1.html ) and Laraine's (
https://ladygouldian.com/catalog/seed-m ... ray-millet ) also both very good and no problems.
Depending on where you have to have it shipped the price can go up quite a bit. Now I buy form a local feed store that has very good seed and a large variety of mixes. For my gouldians, owl finch and forbes I look for a good mix of mostly the smaller seeds with no colored pellets. I also use this mix to make sprouted seed.

I use Herman Brothers, too, and especially like their E.M. Spec Finch Mix:
E.M.FINCH
JAPANESE MILLET
CANARY
SIBERIAN MILLET
FINCH MILLET
WHITE MILLET
STEEL CUT OATS
RED MILLET
THISTLE
FLAX
RAPE
ANISE
SESAME
My birds all love this and there is no waste. It's also fairly inexpensive - $38.69 for 50 pounds. Unfortunately, shipping is a killer, but those who live in or near the Detroit area are very lucky indeed IMO! For my Societies, who love millets more than anything, I stretch this mix with really inexpensive white proso millet.

I used their EM Soak Seed to feed and to soak. It's got everything the Spec Finch Mix has except the steel cut oats, the birds went crazy for it both ways.

I loved Herman Bros. seed mixes, plus you can have them make up your own special mix. However, as Martie said, the shipping got to be a killer, more than doubling the cost. I'm now in a seed co-op, and we order Hagen seed, which is readily available in Canada but not so much in the U.S.
My last order got mixed up, so I had to go to the feed store for more seed. I used to use Jones seed, but now the only Jones seed (now called Grains Plus) they carry is the one with colored pellets. I had to buy it, but hate the red and green stains on everything in the cages.

Just as a level-setter, I normally buy about 60 pounds of seed - and shipping this usually runs around $30.00 to Upstate New York. So - if I'm doing the math right, the final cost per pound is about $1.27.
Maybe I should move to Detroit!

I also use ABBA finch seed, as well as their parakeet, Siskin and soak seed mix. I've tried others before but all my birds seem to like this one the best and I have less waste.
Off topic: they don't seem to have seed specific for parrotlet so I get that somewhere else. Does anybody feed their parrotlets some type of ABBA seed?

Only birds are the one can tell who's seeds are better. I leave one tray of seeds by Dean and one tray of seeds by other like Volkman ..kaytie...Abba.. and Deans one will be gone first. In his website ..he states that they dont complete with the price ...only the quality
...but it is worthy ..i can tell the different by the bird
feather quality and the canaries are healthier then they do sing more with better songs notes
