i was reading through this really great topic on daily supplements this evening, which i found very helpful:
http://www.finchforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19096, i have two questions that were sparked by this topic.
1. can anyone recommend a good mineral mix that i can get in canada? i tried looking for the recommended "pink pigeon mix" that was mentioned in the topic and for some reason i can't seem to find it.
2. the second one is, how do you set up all of your mineral mixes, grit, grated cuttlebone etc. in your cages? i have a lot of cages, and i am looking for advice on how to keep everything clean and organized. how can you offer the birds all of the things they need without having 700 bowls in each cage?
thanks

I only have one cage, but I mix all the mineral type things in a small dish - I think it's really a condiment dish or tea bag holder. I just set it on a platform and the birds pick out what they want. Occasionally I dump what's left and replenish it with the mix, should they have picked out disproportionately something they especially want or need.

I do the same as Donna, one dish for all the mineral type items.
Sorry can't help you with Canadian suppliers

I usually grate cuttlebone, mineral block add some powdered oystershell. It goes into a finger cup or egg cup. I also attach cuttlebone to the bars by using a philips head screw driver (slowly work the screw driver through) to make a small hole and attach with a zip tie.

I have started using Hagen's Claycal, and so far, I like it and so do the birds. I mix it with Abba mineral mix and eggshells. Since Hagen's headquarters is in Canada, I think their nutritional supplies are more readily available in there.

As far as cage organization goes...with multiple cages it is a big help to have everything in the same spot for all cages, makes feeding and cleaning easier. Simplify as much as possible. I had so many bowls for this and that it was crazy. I mix a lot into my seed and over time I have narrowed it down to what they really like to eat. Keep dry foods in one area, water cup and/or drinker in another. Cuttlebone and mineral cup near an end of a branch or perch where they can get to it easily.
