Need help with finding new seed for my finches
Hi once more,
I had an accident about a month ago. This left my daughter to take care of the babies and she didn't replenish my food. She did a great job but I have to tell you how proud of her I am. I never taught her how to care and clean the finches. When I had my accident it was immediate and I was not able to care for them for about a month. My daughter is high function Austistic and I guess by watching me everyday she picked up what to do and I've never been prouder and have had major success in babies.
However, replenishment of supplies was one thing that wasn't done but no one knew what I did. Since my accident, I've since written down what to get and where.
Problem is the seed. I use to go local to get my seed but quite honestly my daughter just isn't comfortable buying and I understand that. It's ok. But I still need finch food for my zebras/societies.
I need help. Does anyone have any suggestions on who to buy from .(I'd buy in bulk probably for another couple of months. Can't lift heavy.)
S&H is just as much as the food. I've called everywhere I know and I can't drive myself. I live alone now with my daughter so I'm on my own. I'm in NJ and if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate anything you can think of. I'm on my last 5 lbs and will need by next week.
Thank you all for the time you all took on all my posts today and in the past. You don't realize what you have until you almost loose it. The accident made me realize how special you all are. I mentioned to a friend here on the forum that you all have the compation, caring and just as much love and respect for each other as we have for our furrie babies. I thank you all so much for that. I guess I'm just feeling a little emotional and just wanted you all to know how much you are all appreciated.

Re: Need help with finding new seed for my finches
I don't have a suggestion for where to order seed from. I also discovered that ordering seed ends up costing A LOT because of the shipping.
Do you have a friend or neighbor that would be willing to do a pick up and drop off for you? You could maybe offer them a little money for the trouble- it would doubtless be less than shipping.
Another idea- maybe call the place you usually get your seed from, and explain your situation. See if they would accept a credit card over the phone and find an employee that would volunteer to drive it and unload it for you. If you're going to purchase a large enough order, they might be willing to work with you to figure out an arrangement that will work.
Kudos to your daughter for paying such great attention and stepping up when you need the help!!

Abba is in NJ, www.abbaseed.com. Maybe shipping would not be so much if it is nearby. How much seed do you need to order? Or maybe there will be a forum member close enough to pick up and deliver for you. And Nelissa had some excellent suggestions, asking a neighbor or calling your normal seed distributor and seeing if they can deliver. Or if they can't deliver, maybe they could ship to you--in the same town, should not be too much.
So sorry you have had an accident, and kudos to your daughter for being so observant and knowing what to do--you must be so proud of her. Sometimes we don't realize just what we have, it takes something like an accident to make us appreciate things. Hope you are on the way to recovery.

Re: Need help with finding new seed for my finches
Thank you ladies for your wonderful suggestions. Abba happens to be pretty close. I do have a neighbor who would love to help. I called him and just got off the phone. I had no idea he had a parrot so he knows the place and is going for me tomorrow. He told me to make up a replenishment list and he'll do the same and make a stash run. (That's what he calls it). Hilarious, but so true. You gals are great. Thanks again. Now I can have a good weekend before the start of my root canal on Monday. I have a very hectic medical schedule through Jan. My neighbor is also going to take me to the dentist Monday. Really a nice guy. Moved in a couple of months ago to house next door. A policeman with a really nice wife (darn,,,lol) and 2 beautiful daughters. Well, at least we can run red lights on days I'm running late.

That's great news, Lyn! So nice to have neighbors that can help out! Just be careful when you're running those respd lights, that no other cars are coming through!!

That's an awesome post about your policeman neighbour - made me laugh as I was just wondering if he was single when I read on to see he has a wife ("oh darn").
What a sweetheart he must be to do these things for you. It must feel great to have the stress ease like that!

When having seed delivered, or any else through ups, have it shipped to a business if you can, the rates are lower

Re: Need help with finding new seed for my finches
Glad your neighbor was able to help. My neighbors are the best when I need some assistance with anything. Both the husband and wife are ready and eager to do what they can when we need anything. We try to do the same for them, but they don't need much. Anyways, glad you'll have help while you get your health back on track.
BTW, my autistic nephew, who is 9-years-old, is so much better at daily tasks than the other children, who are 11, 13, and 15!! We always point out how much he does on the first time being asked while the other may never do what's asked without threat of a consequence. LOL
