Hi everyone

What are your opinions on multi vitamin drops for gouldian drinking water? Is it good or bad? I want to put some drops in my gouldians' drinking water that provides ....vit a, vit d3, thiamine, riboflavin, vit b6, niacin, d-pantothenic acid, and choline. I already provide a complete seed mix, greens, sprouted seeds, egg food, grit-(oyster shells, charcoal, egg shells, cuttle bone). If it makes a difference or not...there are 2 ten day old chicks and 2 juveniles in cage with parents. Any opinion(s) will be appreciated.

I personally don't like to add anything to their water.
Curious what others think

I add these two products every two days when I change the water. I've been using them for over 2 years without a problem, but I will say that I short fill the recommended dosage a little.

Here's a Nutrients & Their Sources chart in the Finch Information Centers nutrition section to help you decide what may be lacking in your diet:

Curious, wouldn't the aviclens which is essentially mouthwash have some affect on the feather glow (vitamins)?

Debbie, thanks for the link. I found it very informative. After reading it I don't think my birds are lacking anything since the vits and etc can be found in food I already give them. I might add the drops maybe once or twice a week just for the heck of it( back up or something).

I use calcium plus in their drinking water to help make up for the lack of sunlight.
Occasional megamix or ACV to help lower PH level.

Your welcome :) There is a wealth of information in the Finch Information Center. You just need to click the link towards the top of this page left hand side where it says "Helpful Finch Link:", it's usually my first place to research before doing a general web search.

Vinegar is acidic so wouldn't it lower PH? :?

I think to some extent you are correct. To what degree I'm unsure. Do you have additional information on this?

I have always used the Aviclens because I have always used one large bird bath as their sole water source.

The Vetafarm site says that aviclens is not suitable for mixing with parasite controls, antibiotics or probiotics, though nothing about vitamins specifically.

The feather Glow says it can be mixed with liquid calcium, molting aid and breeding aid. Mix in fresh drinking water, may just be me but I take that as water without anything added.

Maybe someone with more knowledge will jump in and be able to explain better.

is it less effective to use a dissovable vitamin supplement for the gouldians instead of using natural food sources like seeds and veges.
i thought i heard somewhere that supplements are absorbed less than from food

I don't use vitamin in the water.
I don't remember exactly, but I thought vitamins in water is potent only for x many hours. If so you really need to put it in their water in the morning. Whereas I do my water changes about 4pm so the water+vitamins will sit overnight and the vitamins gradually loose their potency.

My gouldians get vitamins in their food. I give plain fresh water is everyday.
