I have been bringing this little ol lady and ol man back to health for the last month.
Shabby the hen who has never laid an egg in her entire life, and her old man chic (pronounced cheek, get it?
Ginene ) have gained weight and spunk lately. I discovered some soft foods for her to eat. egg food mashed was oddly too hard for her, but the egg sliced worked great. I gave her corn on the cob and couldn't believe my eyes... she devoured it. Also she ate fine and I mean finely chopped romaine like it was going out of style.
I am so relieve as I know she is stuffing her face with good food as I know she struggles to eat seeds.
I also gave this infertile pair a nest sack with fake eggs, and they are so attentive with this fake clutch, it is adorable to watch them, building the nest and always sitting on them.. I hope they live the last years enjoying their lives I am so blessed to see and witness it... LOVE IT
Ginene gave me and they are so calm now, the are so sweet and I think they have stolen my heart above the others at this point.
just had to share this.. LOVE Shabby and Chic

They are precious!!! Breakfast looks great

...although I prefer my eggs with no mealies

. Are your guys touching the mealies??? My RCCB's won't go near them...I even put I bigger portion of squirming ones, sprinkled with dried egg food...NOTHING...very strange

debbie276 Thanks !! I feel like I am the lucky one though
@Ginene The zeb's don't touch them, I bought them for the OCWB, and they devour them. I keep offering them to shabby because of her beak. I was hoping she would develop a taste for them as they are packed with protein and nutrients, we shall see ;)
Going to pick up my Cage today!! (If the rain stops, if not I will get it tomorrow)
We are having serious flooding and damage here in Vermont

Speaking of MEALWORMS...

...my RCCB's refuse to eat the little buggers, so I decided to dice them up, combine them with chopped broccoli and carrots, and give them to all of my birds

...this was a home run!!! I am still recovering from the dry heaves, but I am happy that my feathered friends are stuffed with yummy, healthy goodness.

Lol!!! Sounds good to me! I will pretend you are sending us one at a time!

He's a compulsive hand-washer you know..."Mmmm...Smell mom, it's Nana Jennie's soap." He will be in heaven getting his suds on

!!!
I chop fresh carrots in my Oster and mix them with chopped broccoli tops. Today I added the diced mealies. The canary, zebras, singers, owls and societies ate the mixture

. The RCCB's, Shaft Tails, Cut Throats, Spice and Gouldians didn't touch it

. Oh well, at least those little critters are out of my fridge. I might make it a weekly thing, this way I only have to deal with the squirmers once in a while and my guys will still get some added nutrition.

Waxbills aka Yankee and Doodle, (not sure I like those names yet, Yankee for Vermont made Yankee Candles, get it, Yankee Candle Waxbill) got eggfood and mealy worms, they devoured it, Shabby and Chic chowed on the eggfood and worms, but she couldn't eat the green pepper, HE did though! NOM NOM
