Corn on the cob

Post by nelloyello11 » Sat Jun 15, 2013 6:03 pm

I know it's been discussed before, but I can't seem to find the answer...

Does it need to be cooked first, or can I just put it in raw?

Thanks Martie! I was just saying to my fiancé that I hadn't seen you on lately! I wasn't sure if it was because I have been on a lot and was maybe missing you, or if you hadn't been on. Glad to see you! :D

Martie, I'm very glad you're back too... was thrilled to see you posting again earlier!

I also give it raw but only my canaries and larger birds (like diamond firetails) will touch it. Still, they love it.

Btw, Nelissa... is that a happy birthday cake I see? Happy Birthday!!!! :YMPARTY: :O) :YMPARTY: :O)

I give to mine cooked, but that's only because I make them share it with me. I cut off the kernals for myself, but not too closely, and then let them pick the cob clean. I will also give them whole kernal corn (from frozen) either cooked or raw. It's probably not necessary, but I mash that a bit to help break it out from the tough hull. They love corn - it's one of their favorite things.

Lisa Thanks!! :D

I put it in raw for everyone; they're all very interested (except the BCs who aren't interested in trying anything...), but so far only two zebra hens have tried it.

I cut my raw cobs into six to eight little "wheels", depending on the length of the cob. I make a couple of them extra narrow to fit between cage bars for individually caged birds. For multiple birds, I use thicker pieces laid on their sides on the cage floor. The cut ends usually draw attention and are the first to be picked at. Bob

My silly birds will NOT touch corn on the cob if it is raw. In fact, they fly to the opposite side of the cage and do their "danger" call if it is raw. :wt: I only have to cook it long enough for the kernels to start turning yellow and then they are all over it like finches on a millet spray. ( or monkeys on a cupcake) :O)

diamond firetails love it - but only with young
