Wheat Berries?

I'm just learning what wheat berries are- until a couple days ago, I had never heard of them (found a recipe that calls for them).
It's apparently the unprocessed whole wheat grain, which is cooked similarly to rice.

I am going to get some for us to try, and had a thought that the birds might like them too.

Being unfamiliar with them, I'm not sure if it's a safe thing for them to eat. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge with wheat berries, for either human or bird consumption?

I have sprouted and grown them to use ground up in bread. Also, many years ago while on a health kick, I used to grow it until it was a tray of bright green grass then I would cut and juice the wheat grass. It's perfectly fine sprouted for birds.

Oh, DUH! I can't believe I didn't think of that! I grow wheat grass for them to play in and they love it! I just didn't make a connection..... Rough week, exhausted, and obviously not thinking well hahah
Thanks Perfex!
