So, that 40 gallon tank I had is now going to use. I scattered done seeds from my finch mix, and have been spraying the inside of the tank down with a bottle several times a day to keep it most, but not too wet. Hoping to grow grasses that I can trim and offer to the birds, I have fine out before on pots, but now I will have a lot more! Good idea?

Not sure, do you have good lighting for the grass to grow healthy and strong??Also, in a glass aquarium the humidity might build to much and induce molds and mildews to grow.
The grass idea though is really good especially if you allow some to go to seed.

The hunidity is surprisingly low. I have to spray it several times a day just to keep the soil moist! How long sure it take for them to seed?

depending on a few factors including environment and seed quality, they should germinate in 3 to 7 days. good luck. sure your birds are going to love the grass.

Hmmm if it works you might invest in a terrarium full spectrum light with cage top so that you can do it over the winter (depending on where you live) Also a plastic lid on top should help hold some humidity in so you don't have to spray quit so often.

I do have full spectrum lights! and sadly the top had a special made irremovable tray thing that only fits the mesh top that slides in

Yes, the seeds are very easy to grow and your finches will love it.

I've also been growing green stuff for my canary. I've been using those disposable tupperware containers and I just put the whole thing in her cage once I have a few inches of green. I use an organic, pet-safe soil and a sprouting seed mix that I found at the pet store. I usually see shoots within two days...but I live in SoCal and I think the heat helps. Here are the links to the soil and seed mix that I use:

Good luck!
