Convincing to try new foods

So I suspect that Pipkin and Tucker have not seen much in the food category except seed and mllet, although I don't know for sure. I Did see Tucker eating the millet last night and seeds tonight but have not yet seen Pipkin eat anything. (although I've been at work all day). I gave them a mix of celery and broccoli and also some fresh egg food and they don't seem interested yet. All my established guys descended in mass on the egg food and for at least 10 minutes were totally quiet absorbed in eating. Right now I"m mostly leaving Pipkin and Tucker alone and watching from a distance. If they continue to ignore the other foods does anyone have any idea how to convince them to try other things. Even the Millet sprig seems mostly untouched. They seem in good condition, active and alert with normal stools. Nothing to suggest any illness going on. They just seem to be having a rougher time settling in.

You are doing the right thing by letting them alone to settle in. They have a lot to get use to in their new surroundings. Keep offering them a variety to try, if one tries it the other should follow.

The sometimes will take several weeks to get brave enough to try new foods. Keep persevering.

well, I only have Zebs and a waxbill pair... but I can say, every pair has a different palate... some like cucumber.. some don't touch them. Some eat the eggfood, the waxbills won't touch it... I have 6 (well, now 5) Zebras.. one pair, the Black Cheeks, the Pieds and Lucy (Charlie is gone), and the only pair that touch canned mealies are the Black Cheeks and the waxbills,, the other pair wont touch them..
try and explore... every bird has a different palate. Just keep trying until you see what they like and what they reject.. it took me about three months to know for certain..
Good luck! it't great fun learning!

My society finches eat almost kind of foods which I offer them. Keep offering them new foods and they will eventually start to eat.

A friend who breeds show quality Societies feeds a frozen vegetable mix, the kind that has peas/corn/beans, and her birds love it. I keep intending to try that, it's certainly simpler than chopping up fresh veggies. My birds especially like broccoli, kale, and cucumber.

My Society's go crazy over sprouts. It the one fresh food they really get stuck into, otherwise they just peck at the other offerings (spinach, apple, carrot, broccoli, eggfood etc).
Just give them some time and they will soon let you know what they do like

try sprinkling some seed over the eggfoods and veggies, it may entice them to try it.

My finches are SOOO picky about what I offer them! I've managed to get my new Zebbie to try greens (he tried after several days) but neither of them will eat pellets, though I've tried adding these before.
