I purchased this from petsmart tonight. Haven`t put in cage yet. Can i give this to my green singers and ob waxbills? To play or eat? Would it be harmful in anyway?

I read some stuff around, people`s birds dying after eating grass etc. So i`m kinda suspicious for everything i didn`t prepare myself. Do i need to wash it with water or vinegar water before i put it in or any kind of disinfection?

It says on the package that it is 100% USDA certified organic, so it should be fine to feed to your birds, it should be free of harmful pesticides.

Wow, I've never heard they would die from grass before, wonder how that could happen. My birds love to eat, play with and build nests from any and all grass piece I put in their aviary.
It does say 100% organic so I'm sure there are no chemicals and/or pesticides mixed it.

Why not grow your own? I do.
Instead of emptying mostly eaten seed dishes into the trash I pitch them onto a couple of areas that get regular water. Wild birds get some of it. Some uneaten seed will sprout. I have a constant supply of mostly millets plus a couple of other seed grasses I haven't identified.
In my case I plant into the soil and clip the plants off when they get almost ripe seed heads [past green but not fully yellow yet]. Hang them in the cages. The birds love both the leaves and the seeds.
You could plant in pots outdoors and bring them in at whatever stage you choose.

Perfectly safe, and they LOVE it! My Purple Grenadiers love to 'get right in' and roll around in it. Very, very cute.
DO NOT get the "Cat Nip" - that is toxic to birds.
You CAN grow it yourself. See my topic at:
Growing Wheat Grass
in Diet and Nutrition
Have fun - take photos and share them!

Green singers ate it
OB waxbills pooped on it. No interest from wax bills they didn`t pick eat or even touch. Actually our wax bills aren`t eating anything rather than seeds. Not greens or fruits nothing!! Our wax bills are super wild aswell they panic when we stand up or sit down or pass by cage or change water food cups.

I guess they will never adapt cage life.

I got a couple of them myself and my birds won't touch the stuff. I thought it would be a great treat for them. Oh wells, the grass sure looks nice sitting on the cage floor though

I got that for my birds.. they picked at it, but not crazy about it. The other day I got some Pea Sprouts from a health food store.. they went nuts over that.. all of them. And they love the Orchard Hay from PetSmart. I just toss a couple handfulls on the aviary floor and they rummage and peck and play with it. I think they like the variety.
