Seed Hoppers

Those look to be the same that LadyGouldianfinch.com sells. Just bought some....curious how well they work.

Received mine today. They don't work well. It would be nice if there was a perch on the front. The top part of where it attaches is too wide and it allows the feeder to top to tip back away from the cage. I might glue a perch on the front and attach it with a something so it doesn't tip back.

Can you please post a pic of your new hopper that does not work?

My seed hoppers did that too - tipped back away from the cage a bit. So I went to the dollar-store and bought an elasticized band with velcro ends (6" long x 1" wide). I raise the cage bar and hold the feeder where it should positioned then insert one end of the band through the cage and around the back of the hopper. Bring the other end around to the back and fasten the ends together. It holds them on great and the Gouldians got used to the feeder real quick! No perch needed here. I'm using 1 hopper in each of my 8 breeding cages - all held on by an elastized band.

You also need to remember to empty the hull cups underneath the hoppers every other day or so, so that it doesn't fill up.

I had a good picture of 1 of my hoppers with the band holding it to the cage. I'll see if I can find it and add it later.

I used a bit of tape for now, but I have tiny bungie cords around here somewhere to use if I can find them. I added a perch in front of the hopper so I was able to remove the water cup and add a tube feeder for the water. The only problem I have now is that I can push the hull cup all the way to the cage because the bottom of the cage sticks out too allow it to fit flush.

atasari - can you post a picture? I can't quite get that set up in my mind (with the water cup and tube feeder and the perch infront of the hopper???).

Thats the same one i have an it will not work on my cage doors,

My door lifts up with a spring attached so i cant use the hopper.

Yes - they use it constantly - it's the only source of seeds for them. But they do have lots of other containers of different foods to choose from in their cages as well.

I don't understand why having a spring on the door would make these hoppers unusable for you. As long as the opening is big enough it should work for you too.

The door does not open all the way up to touch the cage, Plus the opening on the cage is a tad bit smaller width wise, i'd have to shave a bit off the hopper for it to fit, Plus remove the door with spring, Sooooo to much work for it, i'll just wait, but i'll still have to take the door off with anything else i would find.

I might have a solution to your feed hopper dilema....
But another cage! What more reason to then buy more birds!

Nope, not going to happen, i'm in a small 3 room appartment

Darn - that line of thought almost makes me wish it didn't fit my cage just so I could buy MORE cages! YES!
