Not Eating

Post by beachbird » Sun Sep 29, 2013 2:04 pm

Hi every one. I have 9 societies in 3 cages seperating the boys from the girls. They are stacked and have been this way for maybe 6 months. Everyone has been doing really well. I rotate the cages so that every one gets a chance to be on the top row. Once again every one seemed to enjoy the change until the last rotation. Now the 3 males on top have really slowed down eating. They appear in every other way healthy. This is the only thing that has changed. I guess I should move them back to where they were. Does any one have any ideas as to why they would behave this way? Also these 3 are more attached to me and I do notice if I sit and talk to them they will eat while I'm there. Pretty strange or pretty spoiled? lol. Of course my husband says I'm pretty crazy. I think most of us have heard that some where before.

Birds can be very sensitive to change, perhaps they were quiet comfortable in the spot they were in previously, as long as it is well lit I would leave them in that spot. Also they may feel exposed and threatened being the top cage and not having something solid above their heads...so they stay vigilant and not eating which would distract them from watching what might be coming from above.

With you near they may feel safe since most birds, animals look to their caretakers for food and safety.

Thanks Cindy. I think you are right. I probably need to stop playing musical cages. Just let them be happy and secure. I left one of the cage doors open accidently and one of the boys flew over and landed right on my chest as if to say hey Mom. I love them so much.

Cindy gave you great advice. I hope they get comfortable and settle down. I keep my Society's in the same cages, except when breeding and they do fine.
