Food list available - wow.

My goodness I just was reading in the Finch Information Center about the food that I can give my finches! Wow - this opens up a whole new diet for them! They will be so happy. Ha.

Questions on a few and comments would be appreciated.
It says you can give applesauce to a finch? Obviously the unsweetened - has anyone done this? Would love to hear.

As well as peas, brussel sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, and spinach. My goodness - my finches eat better vegetables than my picky husband. HA!

Yes it is an impressive list. But keep in mind they may be picky about the choices....just like human kids! You can put it in front of them but you can't make them eat it.

Too bad you couldn't put melted cheese on the veggies. That always worked for my kids when they were little...lol!

I gave them some cooked peas this morning. They looked at them and turned the other way. I was a bit put out. Haha.

Then I thought "what about mashing them??" - I did that and they gobbled it up! They love it. Very picky = really makes me laugh.

I used to give them mashed frozen peas straight out of the bag. They defrosted quickly, and the birds loved them! Then I got too many birds to put a little dish of peas in every cage.

I should do it as a treat, though - they did all like it!

Mine seem to prefer the frozen corn over the frozen peas. It is funny to see my button quail try to eat them while still frozen....they play with it for awhile and it softens up and defrosts enough for them to eat it. They are so impatient! LOL!

Mine absolutely LOVE corn on the cob. I just lay a half of a cob in there uncooked and away they go . They will devour it!

Will try the corn on the cob. Thanks for that tip. Gave them a piece of toasted whole wheat bread tonight - not interested at all. Bought 2 brussel sprouts last night at the store - will try that out tomorrow. I think the gal at the supermarket thought that I had a picky eater in the family - I couldn't help but smile.

My birds love whole wheat bread that is soaked in water. Not toasted.
Try that. They love it, make it good and soggy and then you can even sprinkle things on the bread that you have a hard time getting them to eat.

Just like kids!

mine love eating cucumber and believe it or not madiera cake, the only thing that they eat faster is mealworm
