Great pictures! The next time you gather some seeding grasses, wildbill, would you mind taking a photo to show the other members what breeders mean when they talk about feeding seeding grasses, or green seed? I think many hesitate to do this, because they aren't sure what they should look for.

Hahaha, I learnt this trick off of an Aussie finch site

We have the exact same winter grass and the birds go crazy for it!! Even my GB waxbills who usually turn their nose up at everything go nuts for it. I'm starting to wonder what I'm going to do once it all dies off. Need to plant some grass seeds...

in with that colony of diamonds are 10 or 12 pied fire finches and about 8 dilute forbes or tri colour parrot finches

had a look about the yard and found the following seeding grasses

i then added to this some frozen green milk millet

plus some frozen green millet spray

i then tossed it in a heap on the floor of the aviary then out with the camera.

just as i was about to call it a day - this male red rump parrot landed in the yard so i took his photo too

so overall this should give finch keepers a good idea on how important green seeding grass is to aust finches

Silver beet yes, spinach no. They didn't really care for it.
