On a whim, bought this microwave egg boiler:

didn't really expect much of it, but THIS THING IS AWESOME!!!

Put water in the bottom, put up to 4 eggs in the tray, put on the top, and microwave. Let it sit 2 more minutes, then cool the eggs under cold water. That's all.

No more setting eggs to boil, leaving the kitchen for "just a moment" then getting busy and not being there to notice when the eggs start boiling. No more knowing when the eggs started boiling, but leaving the kitchen "just for a minute", getting busy, and forgetting to get back on time and having way-overcooked eggs. No more not knowing when the eggs started boiling, then forgetting them anyway and having them overcooked anyway.

Yes, I am egg-boiling-attention deficient. There is no cure, I've tried. Until I found this thing. The microwave does all the timing for me! And beeps to remind me that I've got eggs cooked!

Comes with a little chart that tells you how long to cook the eggs for the size microwave you have, and their times are a pretty good estimate, only took a couple of runs to get it perfect. They also give you times for soft-boiled and medium-boiled eggs, so it's not just another expense for the birds, it's great for human breakfasts, lunches, dinners?, too.

You don't have to poke holes in the eggs, and they DO NOT blow up. Over two dozen eggs 'boiled' so far, not one explosion. Not one crack, even.

And it's just darned cute.

One little warning, when it comes out of the microwave, it's HOT, use oven mitts.

I bet you could steam veggies in this, also.

Funny you should post this today! I have one of these that I bought awhile back and never used, but I pulled it out this weekend because my kitchen is out of commission.
Worked like a charm! Quicker, easier and more consistent results than the stove.
I hadn't thought of using it for veggies - I'll have to give that a try.

Will have to try the oven technique next time we are making deviled eggs. Do you cool them with cold water, or just let them cool down in the pans?

Don't need that many eggs at a time for egg food, flock isn't that big, yet.

I think I might try that technique. I usually boil at least 36 eggs at a time, sometimes 72 (12 to a saucepan), so I will have 3 saucepans on the stove at one time. That's a lot of boiling hot water, and as I age, I don't do as well at gripping things securely. I would need to buy more muffin tins, but if it works and makes the eggs easier to peel, it might be worth it.

Let us know how you do, I saw it on Facebook but haven't had time to try it yet.

Sally I would think you could just lay the eggs in a cake pan or something like that. As long as they are loosely filled, I would think it would work as good as cupcake tins. Since eggs are round, they wouldn't pack up against each other, can only contact each other at a tiny point.

If you try the muffin tins, please let us know how it works! I hate wasting so much water when I boil eggs, so this would be fantastic!!
