Does anyone know what herbs might be good for birds? I would love to put some pots of herbs in my aviary. I don't want to give them anything that would be harmful.

This link talks about helpful herbs that birds can eat. They are the ingredients in the Herb Salad they talk about but I would think you could grow your own plants from that list. ----->Herbs For Birds

Since you have an aviary, you can get some pretty good-sized pots going. I tried putting small (4") pots in cages, and they destroyed them in a matter of days. Now I use the Twin Beaks Herb Salad, which my birds love, but when I have an aviary, I will put pots of herbs in there. The birds will dig in the dirt of the pot, too, so I used organic potting soil, but be prepared for a mess.

I put pots containing oregano, basil, marjoram and garlic chives in my aviary. within 3 days each plant was reduced to almost nothing and had to be removed. now I have three pots of each and rotate them every two days. then have two days of no herbs. gives the plants time to recover

Thanks! I am going to get some and try it. I do use the herb salad, but since I did have the room I thought I might try the pots. I like to do new things to keep them interested and change their enviroment. Thanks mickp for the suggestion on what kind you use and especially on using the organic soil Sally. I know it is a mess, but I have a mess anyway. It is an every day cleaning for me. Yesterday it was the silk trees, today the floors, tomorrow the windows.... and on and on :!: :!: :!: :!:
