pellets versus seed

I got my finches two weeks ago from petsmart. I bought the same kind of food they was feeding them there, which is Zupreem fruity pellets. They eat it just fine. Since I got them I have introduced them to veggies and egg food with shell. At first they was terried of it, so I took their food away one morning for an hour. They started eating the egg then. Now I just mix their veggies in with the egg each day, and they look for it now. I dont take their pellets away anymore. Now they just eat what they want. They get millet three times a week.
I ordered them some fortified seed, some sprouting seeds dried bugged, and herb salad. It is supposed to come today.
Question is, if they already eat pellets just fine and enjoy them should I just offer seed a couple times a week for a treat and variety, or switch them to a seed diet.
I want to do what is best for them.
Thank you,
Air~

Interesting since I just asked my avian vet about an all pelleted diet for budgies and finches...she said (as did my original avian vet) that the findings/recommendations is that finches and budgies need seed along with the pellets....due to metabolism. I have been offering pellets and seed for years and supply them with egg food once a week (when not breeding) and a rotation of veggies, grains throughout the week as well. So a variety is good!

Avoid the fortified seeds that are coated...the coating is on the outside (hull) which is not eaten and an unreliable way to supply birds with vitamins and minerals.

So my question would be...

My canary and finches have not had pellets. They are on a high quality mix of both canary and finch seed mixtures, along with an assortment of fresh fruits and greens, along with hard boiled eggs , dry meal worms and spray millet.

Should I also offer pellets? And, what would be the best way to introduce pellets? As is, crushed, pulverised and mixed with seeds or eggs... Any thoughts on this?

I offer it mixed in the seed or dried egg foods. I also combine it with some of the chops and mixes I make for the birds.Today was chopped spinach, carrots, dried parsley, dry steele cut oats, cooked couscous and Roudybush pellets.

Thanks Cindy.

I still don't have images back, so couldn't see picture. If you offer oats and couscus, do you cook them as instructed on the package?
